Award winning!
Its been posted everywhere else so seems a little daft not to put it here, but i found out earlier this week that Voices from the Shadows has won the audience award for ‘International Documentary’ at Mill Valley. Goes without saying I’m chuffed to bits! Never dreamed when i started this project with Mum several years ago that we would end up with it being screened at such a prestigious film festival, let alone picking up an award! A huge thank you though to the guys at Mill Valley who put so much work into raising awareness of the film and including us in the ‘Best of the Brits’ and ‘Active Cinema’ Categories. Its hopefully helping to add just a little bit more awareness of the film and the issues its tackling.
Cheers
Josh

Voices from the Shadows Premiering at Mill Valley

Its finally been confirmed, and very excited to be able to say that ‘Voices from the Shadows’ will have its world premier in the US at the Mill Valley Film Festival. Founded in 1978 by California Film Institute director Mark Fishkin, Mill Valley is well known for the quality of its programming. It has established an impressive track record for launching new films and new filmmakers, and has earned a reputation as a filmmakers’ festival by offering a high-profile, prestigious, noncompetitive environment for celebrating the best in independent and world cinema.
There’s more to come… its just not quite ready to go just yet!
Filming in Ghana.
Just returned from filming in Ghana for the second documentary in the ‘Visions’ series for Substantial films.
Four years ago, Marieke de Lange co-founded a travelling theatre to empower underprivileged children by staging theatrical performances in their communities that address issues pertinent to the problems they face. Based in Accra, Marieka is working to inspire a poverty-stricken community by making street children aware of their talents and qualities through performance. Her aim is to empower these children by allowing them to inform the communities of the issues surrounding their plight. This process personalises situations that societies so often objectify as an easy coping mechanism.
We’re heading back to ghana in four weeks, and again in august to document how the project develops, and at some point i’ll hopfully be able to post a few pictures and news as things develop… !
Voices from the Shadows Trailer finally here..
We’ve been working onthis for nearly two years now, so its quite a feeling to be able to finally be able to talk about it and show just a little of whats to come… ‘Voices from the Shadows’ is a 62min Documentary bearing witness to the devastating consequences of psychiatric prejudice and medical ignorance towards M.E. More to follow soon, but for now we have a facebook page here and a trailer on vimeo here. A proper website will be on its way soon… and some more info!
