I’ve only just stumbled across this so seemed kind to share in the hopes that others will find it a little easier to get hold of. Videolan provide libdvdcss on their website, (if your wondering why handbrake and VLC2 don’t play happily together this is the answer to your problems) and you can grab the pkg here
libdvdcss is a simple library which is designed to allow access to DVDs like a block device without having to bother about the decryption. With the release of VLC 2.0 libdvdcss was no longer available as an individual dylib in the app package – meaning that handbrake could no longer use VLC’s libdvdcss for dish decryption. Having it separately available means handbrake is happy again.
Update: also just stumbled across an application called Fairmount that mounts protected DVDs as unprotected disks and the latest version comes in 32- and 64-bit versions. It too uses VLC for libdvdcss, so you’ll need to run the 32-bit version of Fairmount to get it to work.
